Mechanism of Action
Alclometasone is a topical anti-inflammatory medicine that is commonly used to reduce inflammatory reactions in the skin, such as in dermatitis or eczema. Alclometasone works by suppressing various cells and chemical mediators involved in the inflammatory process, so that the inflammation does not progress and the symptoms of inflammation gradually improve.
Indications
Alclometasone is used for skin conditions that involve inflammatory reactions, such as eczema.
Contraindications
Contraindications of alclometasone usage include:

Injured or damaged skin

Skin disorders related to tuberculosis (TB) or viral infections

Bacterial or fungal skin infections
-
Other skin conditions such as rosacea, acne, and perioral dermatitis
Side Effects
Side effects are generally uncommon. However, several side effects may appear, including:

A burning or stinging sensation

Dry skin

Numbness

Allergic reactions

Irritation

Secondary bacterial infections

White patches on the skin

Excessive hair growth (hypertrichosis)
Preparations
Alclometasone preparations currently available in Indonesia include:
- 0.05% or 0.5 mg/g cream
Dosage

Adult dosage: Apply a thin layer to the affected area 1-3 times daily for up to 7 days. Longer use may be considered but should be under medical supervision, especially in chronic conditions.

Pediatric dosage: For children older than 1 year old, the dose is the same as the adult dosage. Use for more than 3 weeks is not advised.
Safety of Drugs
Pregnancy:
Alclometasone is classified as FDA pregnancy category C (animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women). Therefore, the potential benefits and risks must be carefully weighed in pregnant women.
Drug Interactions
There have been no significant clinical reports so far regarding drug interactions when alclometasone is used together with other medications. However, it is recommended to consult a doctor if you are taking other drugs at the same time as alclometasone, so that their combined use can be properly monitored.
