How It Works

Glycerol, commonly referred to as glycerin, is a medication used to treat conditions such as constipation and coughs. It is also effective in moisturizing and softening the skin, available in cream form. When used for treating coughs, glycerol works by blocking the coughing triggers in the airways.

Side Effects

Some potential side effects of glycerol include irregular heart rhythms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, dehydration, or a burning sensation and pain at the application site.

Glycerol is available in several forms, including syrup, suppositories, and enema solution (which is administered rectally).
