How To Work

Benzoyl peroxide is a topical drug / oles that shows the effect of bactericides (antimpactries) on Cutibacterium acnes, bacteria that cause vulgarity (acne) acne. Benzoyl peroxide after being absorbed by the skin will be converted into benzotic acid. About 5% benzoat acid is systemically absorbed and excreted/excreated by the kidney system. The remaining benzoat acid will be metabolized by the system on the skin, releasing oxygen types of active free radicals resulting in oxidation of bacterial proteins. Acne improvement occurs by reducing lipids, free fatty acids, and C. acnes. After using 10% benzoyl peroxide every day for two weeks, the amount C. acnes hair follicles decreased 98%, and the number of free fatty acids decreased 50%, which is comparable to the results obtained after four weeks of antibiotic therapy. Benzoyl peroxide also has a mild sebostatic (reduced oil) effect that contributes to keratolitic activity (lifting dead skin cells and stimulating the regeneration process of skin cells) and is effective in treating comodal acne.
