How It Works
Bilberry extract contains anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that support eye health by reducing oxidative stress. These antioxidants also help lower the levels of free radicals in the body, which can contribute to various health issues.
Indications
Bilberry extract is commonly used as a supplement to promote overall eye health and protect the eyes from oxidative damage.
Contraindications
- The safety of bilberry extract during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well established, so it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before use.
- People with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to bilberry-related ingredients (such as wheat or gluten) should avoid this supplement. Allergic reactions may include skin rashes, swelling of the lips or eyelids, and difficulty breathing.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, liver disorders, although this effect is rare.

Dosage
Purpose: To support general eye health.

Adult dosage: 60–120 mg per day.

Children aged 6–12 years: 5 mL, 3 times daily.

Children aged 1–6 years: 2.5 mL, 3 times daily.
Purpose: To help treat vision-related issues.
- Adult dosage: 240–480 mg per day, divided into 2–3 doses (maximum 480 mg per day).
The dosage can also be adjusted according to the specific instructions on the packaging of each bilberry extract product.
Safety
Pregnancy:
Bilberry extract is classified as FDA Category N (the risk to the fetus has not been clearly established). It is important to consult a doctor before using this supplement during pregnancy.
Drug Interactions
Blood-thinning medications (antiplatelet or anticoagulant) (e.g., aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin). The use of bilberry extract alongside blood thinners can increase the risk of bleeding.
