Boric acid/alcohol otic, Auro-Dri, EarDry, Santadex

How It Works

Boric acid is a topical medication with mild antibacterial and antifungal properties. It works by creating an acidic environment that helps prevent microbial growth. In some formulations, boric acid is combined with isopropyl alcohol to treat bacterial and fungal ear infections. The exact way boric acid works is not entirely understood, but the alcohol component helps dry the ear canal, reducing moisture that can promote microbial growth.

Indications

Boric acid ear drops are typically used to treat bacterial and fungal infections in the outer ear, also known as otitis externa or swimmer's ear. This condition often results from activities like swimming or bathing, but can also occur due to other factors like sweating or humid environments.
